Unveil the Past, Celebrate the Present: Ticao Heritage Exhibit Opens for Tricentenario
SAN JACINTO, MASBATE — As Ticao Island marks a monumental milestone of 300 years of faith, history, and culture, the doors to its storied past are officially swinging open. The Tricentenario Historical Exhibit is set to launch at the iconic Dacu na Balay, inviting locals and visitors alike to walk through three centuries of the island’s enduring legacy.
Under the theme "Ticao @ 300," the exhibit serves as the centerpiece of the year-long celebration. It offers a rare glimpse into the island's evolution—from its pre-colonial roots as a thriving maritime community to its strategic role as a "Safe Haven" during the Spanish Galleon Era.
A Journey Through Time
The exhibit curators have assembled a powerful collection that breathes life into the island’s most pivotal moments. Visitors can expect to see:
The Galleon Legacy: Explore the history of the Santo Cristo de Burgos, the galleon that wrecked off the coast of San Fernando on July 23, 1726, bringing with it the sacred image that would define the island’s spiritual identity.
Artistic Tributes: Featured works include "Galleon String Art" by Mark Czar Espenilla and evocative paintings by Lealda Villamor-Antonio and Dolly Angelica Cantonjos, depicting the "Wreckage" and early Ticao civilization.
The Traslación Narrative: Learn about the heroic rescue of the holy image during the 1754 Moro attacks and its historic journey to the Fortaleza de San Jacinto in 1756.
