Bicolano Excellence: BU Daraga Graduate Places 4th in March 2026 Physician Boards

Bicol University (BU) continues its streak of academic excellence as one of its own, Iran Viñas Brotamante, clinched the fourth-highest spot in the March 2026 Physicians Licensure Examination.

Brotamante’s impressive score of 89.58% places him among the elite new physicians in the country, sharing the Rank 4 position with Fedel Dane Bergado Caracut from the Cebu Institute of Medicine.

The Ranking: Brotamante is the sole representative from a Bicol-based institution in the Top 10 for this board cycle.

Institutional Pride: This success reaffirms Bicol University - Daraga's status as a premier training ground for medical professionals in Southern Luzon, following the university's recent "Top 1" performance in the Architecture boards earlier this year.

Regional Impact: His success serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring doctors in the Bicol Region, proving that world-class medical education is accessible outside of Metro Manila.

The Top Tier Landscape

The March 2026 PLE saw a diverse mix of top-performing schools. While the Rank 1 name was officially withheld in the initial release, the rest of the Top 5 features graduates from Cagayan State University, De La Salle Medical & Health Sciences Institute, and the University of Santo Tomas.
