TODAY IN HISTORY: Honoring Narciso Joseph Alegre y Sargent

On this day in 1911, one of Sorsogon’s most distinguished sons was born. Narciso Joseph Alegre y Sargent was a champion of civil liberties and a pivotal figure in Philippine political history. From co-founding the Young Philippines party to serving as the first president of the Civil Liberties Union of the Philippines in 1938, Alegre dedicated his life to advocating for the rights of his fellow Filipinos during the pre-war and post-war eras.

A veteran, entrepreneur, and civic leader, his legacy continues to inspire generations of Bicolanos to stand for justice and national service.
