Today, we look back on the birth of one of the Philippines' most decorated heroes, Colonel Venancio Merioles Serrano, born on April 4, 1922, in Armenia, Uson, Masbate.
Known to many as "Boni," his name is synonymous with courage and selflessness. From the personal tragedy of losing his father during the Japanese invasion to his legendary service in the Korean War, Serrano’s life was defined by his unwavering commitment to duty.

As part of the 10th BCT Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea (PEFTOK), he led one of the most daring exploits of the conflict. On the night of November 5, 1950, at just 28 years old, he led a raid across the Yalu River, successfully capturing 77 enemy soldiers. This act of valor, along with many others, earned him the prestigious Medal of Valor and a total of 48 medals throughout his career.
